Has your computer been running slowly? Would you like a speed boost without breaking the bank? You've come to the right place! We can bring your PC or Mac back to life by upgrading your computer's Ram memory and hard disk.
What's a computer memory upgrade?
The Ram Random Access Memory inside your computer is responsible for how many programs you can have open at any one time. When you turn on your computer, windows loads in to the Ram and every program you open is also loaded into the Ram. If there is not enough Ram inside your machine, your computer can run slowly as there is not enough space for all the programs to spread out and become available in the computer's memory. Upgrading your computer's Ram is often a cheap way of increasing speed and performance. Memory upgrade costs can vary depending on the age and model of your machine, but as a general rule start from £30 approximately. If you supply your make and model number when contacting us, we will be able to provide you with a more specific price.
What's a computer hard disk upgrade?
For years, most computers have had conventional hard disks inside them. The hard disk is where all your information and programs are stored. Older hard disks have motors inside them with an arm travelling across the disk to retrieve your data, a bit like a record player. Whenever you carry out any task on your computer, the arm has to go searching across the entire disk for the information you've requested. The computer then processes and displays the information and carries out your instructions. Newer hard disks known as “solid state” hard disks do not have any moving parts inside them. This means your data is a lot less prone to corruption/loss and your computer can find what it needs in a fraction of the time.
How much of a difference will a hard disk or memory upgrade make?
We have upgraded computers and laptops for customers who have owned machines as far back as 2006. Before the upgrade, the computer was taking three minutes to start up. Replacing the conventional hard drive with an upgraded solid state drive and memory, means that the computer now starts up in 30 to 45 seconds from when it is first turned on. A significant improvement to say the least! We have also upgraded Mac books from 2010 to 2011. Before the upgrade the Mac was taking a few minutes to start up. After the upgrade, it would boot in around 15 seconds! We can arrange to have your computer collected and shipped to us. We will then upgrade your hard drive transferring all your data across to the new drive and then send the computer back to you along with the old hard drive in an external enclosure. You can plug it in to your computer via USB and use it as an external hard drive. Depending on the size of hard drive you require and the age of the machine, we will be more than happy to provide you with a customized quote for a hard drive and/or ram upgrade.
